Can you share a bit about your background and what brought you to Keller?

I started at Keller in May 2021 as an intern right after I finished my sophomore year at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). I was looking for a role that aligned with my engineering degree and long-term career goals while also gaining hands-on experience. Keller provided me that opportunity by allowing me to work on real projects and apply what I learned in school, while in school! While working at Keller, I earned my B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and completed my Master of Business Administration.

What’s your role here, and how would you describe it to someone outside the industry?

My role as Project Engineer combines technical design work with project management. I contribute to design projects, support construction administration efforts, and am continuing to build experience in managing project scope, schedules, and budgets. I work closely with internal and external design teams and manufacturers to keep technical details aligned with project timelines and client expectations.

What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering?

Growing up, I was influenced by my dad’s career as a mechanical engineer. I initially considered pursuing architecture but ultimately decided to study civil engineering.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received, and how has it shaped you?

The best advice I’ve carried with me came from my AP Statistics teacher in high school.

She told me, “If you ever feel like you can’t solve a problem, take a step back, see what you do know, and break the rest into smaller pieces you can handle. With that approach, you can solve anything.

That mindset has shaped the way I approach challenges and gave me a new perspective on problem-solving.

Can you share a memorable moment or project from your time in this career?

My most memorable project is currently under construction. I am originally from Minden, Nevada, and I worked on the design of a local water storage tank located near my best friend’s home. This tank supplies water to several people I grew up with, which made the project special.

“Being able to improve something that directly impacts people I know has been especially meaningful to me.”

What do you enjoy most about working at Keller?

The culture and the people are what I enjoy most! I really value the teams I’ve had the chance to work with, and they make coming to work feel like an exciting collaborative project.

How do you stay motivated and inspired?

Growing up, I was always inspired by my parents, who came to the U.S. from Vietnam with very little and worked hard to create better opportunities for me and my family. Their perseverance and sacrifices shaped my sense of responsibility, resilience, and discipline, which still guide me today.

Today, I am motivated by these same values and by the people who continue to support and challenge me. My friends and family are my strongest support system, and their encouragement pushes me to keep growing.

Who has been a mentor or major influence in your career and why?

Shout-out to Jeremy Wilson! Jeremy has been an incredible mentor for me throughout my time at Keller. As a young engineer, he has always had my back and supported me through many challenging situations. I value his guidance and mentorship greatly, and he has made a meaningful difference in my growth and confidence as an engineer.

What is something most people would be surprised to learn about you?

I love to make my Halloween costumes every year. A few years ago, I was a grape, and it was fantastic!

When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?

Outside of work, I have recently enjoyed taking various dance classes, Pilates, cycling, and going to the gym. When I’m not active, I like to spend quality time with friends and family. I also enjoy traveling to meet new people, explore different cultures, and try new foods!
