Our Expertise > Star Sewer & Water District Wastewater Treatment Plant
Keller has worked with Star Sewer & Water District (SSWD) on numerous upgrades to both their lagoon and mechanical WWTPs. These upgrades include blowers, dewatering systems, and, most recently, a full upgrade to their MBR treatment facility to bring the plant into compliance with new phosphorous and ammonia discharge limits. To help SSWD meet the new permit limits, Keller coordinated bench and pilot tests to evaluate several nutrient removal technologies. The test results indicated that dosing a rare earth metal salt solution into the MBR treatment system had the lowest 20-year life cycle cost and consistently met the 0.07 mg/L effluent phosphorous limit. The project also included extensive public outreach.
Keller was able to progress the current MBR treatment facility design ahead of SSWD’s compliance schedule by nearly two full years to keep up with Star’s rapid growth.
