Growing Possibilities Through Day of Service

When we talk about building infrastructure, we’re really talking about contributing to the heart and soul of the community. Our work isn’t limited to the projects we design—volunteering and giving back is an essential part of who we are. Because we live and work in these communities, too. Our recent partnership with the City of Independence, Oregon gave team members the opportunity to give back to their local community and transform a public park into an inviting green space.

Founded in 1845 and nestled along the banks of the Willamette River, Independence is grounded in its history and focused on building community. From its historic roots in hop production to its transformative riverfront development and vibrant downtown, both geographic and socioeconomic drivers impact Independence’s infrastructure needs.

Keller has collaborated with the City since 2023 to deliver roadway, water, wastewater, and site civil projects. We have also taken on unique projects, including a pool building demolition, rate updates, an outfall mixing zone study, and park improvements.

Improving lives is the central theme of our Core Values, and one way that we do this is by annually providing team members with eight hours of paid time to volunteer in our communities.  With their volunteer hours, our team members in Salem and Beaverton, Oregon gave back to the City of Independence, planting hundreds of shrubs and greenery with other community members and local organizations at the new Sunset Meadows Park that Keller partnered with the City to design. Through hard work and collaboration, the group worked to enhance a vibrant attraction for community members to enjoy with their families.

The park brings to life the community’s vision of creating a green space for families in one of the City’s newest neighborhoods. Sunset Meadows Park includes a walking path, a natural play area, picnic areas and benches, a water fountain, and landscaping including a native plant garden.

By partnering with our local communities, we can create infrastructure that supports economic and residential growth, enhances public health, and provides opportunities to give back through volunteering. It’s just one of the ways that #KellerCares.
